Abstract Conflict is a phenomenon that has caused devastation globally. In Kenya, conflict is experienced as warring groups engage in armed and non-armed conflicts. Vernacular radio stations are a predominant mode of media for news, entertainment and other topical issues. Studies conducted on roles of vernacular stations tend to explain the gains that they have made in broadening audiences around the world and providing a general sense of how their broadcasts might foster peaceful co-existence without giving a nuanced perspective on their popularity in promoting peaceful coexistence. This would especially be relevant in Kuria East Constituency where the government and other agencies have been trying to promote reconciliation through Kuria radio programs due to the history of inter-communal strife. This study, examined the popularity of Kuria radios’ peace programs in promoting peaceful coexistence amid intra-ethnic clashes in Kuria East Constituency. The study adopted symbolic interaction theory propounded by Blumer (1969). It adopted a cross-sectional research design. Using Yamane formula, the study settled at a sample size of 326 households. Respondents were selected through systematic random sampling technique. Quantitative and qualitative data was gathered through semi-structured interviews, key informant interviews, in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The data collected was thematically analyzed and presented using narrative for qualitative data and for quantitative data, descriptive statistics were generated and presented in frequency tables. The study found that Kuria radio peace programs were well-received, with 74.7% being aware of them. The study is useful in informing media programs on peace building among warring communities.
