Effect of Brain Gym Exercises on Anxiety and Quality of Life in Physiotherapy Students - An Experimental Study

| Abstract | BACKGROUND AND NEED OF STUDY: Physiotherapy students are often subjected to high level of anxiety due to academic & clinical training .The brain gym exercise may enhances performance, improves memory, psychological perception and Quality of life. Thus, this study will help to improve anxiety and quality of life in physiotherapy students. AIM & OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the effects of brain gym exercises on anxiety &quality of life in physiotherapy students. METHOD: Ethical clearance was obtained from institutional ethical committee. Written informed consent was taken. Students (n=30 ) with age group 18-24 years male and female who were willing to participate were included in this study. The participants having mild to moderate anxiety using the screening tool Hamilton anxiety rating scale were included. Students with psychological conditions, migraine headache, neurosurgery, cognitive damage& who taking psychotic drug & previously participate in brain gym programme were excluded from study. The Hamilton anxiety rating scale and Short form-36 was used to assess Anxiety & Quality of life respectively. Exercise was performed 5 days a week for 2 weeks. RESULT: There was a statistically significant effect of brain gym exercises on anxiety and quality of life (p<0.05) in Physiotherapy Students. CONCLUSION: The study concludes that brain gym exercises are an effective on anxiety and quality of life in physiotherapy students. |
