Primary Data Based Report: Understanding Voting Patterns in Maharashtra Post 2024 State Elections

| Abstract | This paper seeks to analyze the determinants of voting behavior across different regions of Maharashtra through first-hand survey data that I collected. Unlike secondary analyses that rely heavily on media narratives or post-election reports, the present study uses primary data gathered from respondents in multiple districts in 2025. This allows for insights that reflect the lived realities of voters: their socioeconomic positions, occupational experiences, and everyday concerns. This paper is organized around three guiding questions. First, how do demographic factors such as age, gender, education, and occupation influence voting preferences? Second, what regional variations can be observed between urban centers like Mumbai and Pune, industrial hubs such as Nagpur, and the agrarian districts of Marathwada and Vidarbha? Third, why do patterns of voting differ across Maharashtra whether due to candidate qualifications, party ideologies, or economic considerations? By addressing these questions, the paper aims to develop a comprehensive and nuanced account of electoral decision-making in Maharashtra. The analysis goes beyond descriptive statistics with the hope of using real-time data to contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between democracy, development and identity. |
