Abstract A study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of a video assisted teaching programme on knowledge regarding the use of drumstick and its leaves in the prevention of diabetes mellitus among adults in selected rural areas of Valsad district.
Objectives: (1) To assess the level of knowledge regarding the use of drumstick leaves in prevention of diabetes mellitus among adults in rural areas, (2) To evaluate the effectiveness of the video assisted teaching programme, (3) To find out association between pre-test knowledge and selected demographic variables.
Method: A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used. A sample of 60 adults was selected using convenient sampling. Data was collected using a structured knowledge questionnaire.
Results: The mean post-test knowledge score (16.48) was significantly higher than the mean pre-test score (10.2), with a paired t-value of 16.95 (p<0.05). Chi-square test revealed a significant association between pre-test knowledge and age, but not with sex, income, education, diet or source of information.
Conclusion: The study concluded that the video assisted teaching programme was effective in enhancing knowledge about the use of drumstick leaves in prevention of diabetes mellitus.
