Abstract Students now use social networking sites (SNSs) like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn on a daily basis. This study looks at how social networking sites affect Indian university students' academic performance. The study investigates how the use of these platforms affects study habits, learning outcomes, and overall academic achievement through surveys and interviews with students from various universities. Social networking sites can have both positive and negative effects, according to the findings. When properly utilized, they facilitate communication between students and teachers, knowledge sharing, and access to educational resources. On the other hand, overuse for non-academic objectives frequently results in distraction, reduced study time, and worse grades. For improved academic performance, the study emphasizes the significance of digital awareness and balanced use of social media. It implies that colleges ought to assist students in making efficient use of social networking sites for their academic development.
