Corporate Performance Metrics of Indian PSUs: A Quantitative Assessment

Author(s) Nidhi Sharma, Dr. Suresh
Country India
Abstract This study presents an analytical overview of the financial and operational performance of leading Indian PSUs for the fiscal year 2023–24. Drawing on key indicators such as Profit After Tax (PAT), market capitalization, return on equity (ROE), earnings per share (EPS), and dividend yields, the research highlights the top-performing PSUs and evaluates their quantitative corporate metrics. The findings reveal strong profitability among major players like SBI, ONGC, and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), reflecting both financial robustness and strategic importance across sectors like banking, energy, and infrastructure. Moreover, the study explores the broader implications of PSU performance in terms of economic contribution, investor confidence, and national development priorities. It identifies performance disparities among PSUs, underlining the need for reforms in governance, innovation, and sector-specific strategies. The research concludes that while PSUs continue to be vital to India’s growth trajectory, their sustained relevance will depend on adaptability, operational efficiency, and alignment with emerging national and global priorities.
