Abstract Postpartum depression is one of the most common complications in the postpartum period. The study was conducted with the main objective of assessing the postpartum depressive symptoms among postnatal mothers. A non-experimental quantitative research approach and descriptive survey design were adopted. Subjects were selected using purposive sampling. The tools used were a structured questionnaire and the EPDS scale to assess the postpartum depressive symptoms among postnatal mothers by interview technique.. The study included 196 postnatal mothers. The study results showed that 76 percent of postnatal mothers had no postpartum depressive symptoms, 11.2 percent had mild symptoms, 4.1 percent had moderate symptoms, and 8.7 percent had severe symptoms. The study results revealed that there is a significant association between postpartum depression and selected variables such as education and category of pregnancy. The chi-square values obtained for education and pregnancy were less than the 0.05 level of significance (0.004 and 0.040, respectively).
