Abstract Self-help groups (SHGs) are formal groups formed by 10 to 12 members to improve their lifestyle by engaging in various independent works. They get financial assistance as loans from banks with low interest for engaging in work. Banks provide loans to self-help groups with low interest rates in return the groups have regular money transactions with banks. The present study aims to check if there is any impact made by the self-help groups on the banks with financial transactions by these groups in the Dibrugarh district of Assam. It has been found that there is active transactions made by the Self-help groups with banks. A non-parametric test was performed to check whether the financial performance of banks was impacted by the transactions made by self-help groups with a null hypothesis. It was observed that there was some impact on financial banks by the transactions made by Self-help groups. For this Kruskal-Wallis H test was used and its value was found to be significant. Also, ordinal regression was conducted to check the performance of financial transactions with Self-help groups. It was observed that some impact was created on the financial transactions of banks made by the Self-help groups.
