Abstract Background- Menstruation is a vital reproductive process that adolescent girls undergo once they attain puberty. Despite menstruation being a normal physiological process, clouded by many misconceptions, myths and taboos. Girls need to be educated and aware of menstruation and menstrual hygiene practices.

Objectives- (i) To examine the awareness level of the university students regarding menstruation and menstrual hygiene practices, (ii) To investigate whether the awareness level of PG students is different from that of the UG students about menstruation and menstrual hygiene practices.

Materials & Methods- This is an explorative study, where 384 girls were surveyed using structured questionnaire about the awareness of menstruation and menstrual hygiene practices. Data analysed by SPSS software using descriptive analysis, independent sample t-test and ANOVA test.

Results- A Cronbach Alpha of 0.716 indicates the reliability of the data. Descriptive statistics shows an average mean of more than three. Hence, there is standard awareness about menstruation and menstrual hygiene practices. In addition, t-test and ANOVA test shows a p-value < 0.05, which means that awareness, increases with the education level.

Conclusion- Education found to have a substantial impact on the awareness regarding menstruation. Hence, the students should be educated and made aware about proper hygiene practices along with the adoption of environment-friendly initiative. Girls should be able to communicate and share their reproductive health problems without hesitating to their friends and families. These girls are the mother of tomorrow and bear the healthy future of their family, community and nation.
