| Abstract | The COVID-19 pandemic caused a noteworthy psychological stressor for populations and communities worldwide. Vulnerable demographics, particularly individuals aged sixty years and above and those with pre-existing medical conditions, faced higher risks of severe morbidity and mortality. The ambiguity evolving surrounding conditions generated cognitive dissonance and psychological distress, manifesting as increased mental discomfort among affected populations. Anxiety disorders are a prevalent psychological manifestation within geriatric populations. Empirical research acknowledged strong correlations between coronavirus-related anxiety and an upsurge in anxiety levels during the pandemic period. It demonstrated substantial clinical implications, several adverse outcomes, like functional decline, maladaptive substance use, dysfunctional religious coping strategies, severe hopelessness, and passive suicidal ideation. Although global populations have shown good adaptive capacity in coexisting with the spread of COVID-19, a subset of elderly individuals continues to experience persistent anxiety and apprehension regarding pandemic-related uncertainties. Within this framework, the present investigation examined the prevalence of anxiety symptomatology among geriatric populations during the post-pandemic period. Anxiety assessment was conducted by utilizing the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, a validated psychometric instrument. The findings contribute to evidence-based intervention planning and the development of therapeutic coping strategies for elderly populations experiencing psychological distress during crises. |
