| Abstract | Nasal congestion is a common symptom of respiratory infections, allergies, and sinusitis, often causing discomfort and reduced quality of life. Conventional therapies such as nasal sprays or oral decongestants provide temporary relief but may lead to side effects or poor patient compliance. The present study aimed to develop and evaluate effervescent vapor tablets as a novel, patient-friendly dosage form for inhalation therapy. The tablets were formulated with a citric acid–sodium bicarbonate effervescent base and incorporated natural essential oils including menthol, eucalyptus oil, camphor, and peppermint oil for their decongestant and soothing properties. Cornstarch was used as binder and filler, and alcohol-assisted wet granulation ensured uniform mixing before compression. Evaluation showed good weight uniformity (491.5 mg, within ±5%), friability of 1%, rapid effervescence (1:05 min), and solution pH ~6.0, safe for nasal mucosa. Vapors provided quick onset (~15 sec), strong aroma, and lasted about six minutes with excellent volunteer acceptability. Stability studies confirmed retention of aroma and efficacy. The results suggest that effervescent vapor tablets are safe, effective, and convenient, offering a natural alternative for rapid symptomatic relief of nasal congestion. |
