Abstract Objective of the study: The purpose of this study was to establish a relationship between SF ratio and PF ratio so that SF ratio can be used as a surrogate marker for PF ratio.
Methodology: a cross-sectional study of 122 patients (birth to 18 years) requiring respiratory support was done. After enrolling the patients, arterial blood gas analysis was performed as per ICU team protocol and requirement and simultaneous Spo2 was recorded. Quantitative data is presented as Mean and Standard deviation. Qualitative data was presented as frequency and percentage table. Association among the study groups was assessed with the help of Student ‘t’ test and Chi-Square test.
Results: Mean PF ratio was 286.63 and mean SF ratio was 220.66. Significant association is found between PF ratio and SF ratio (P value<0.05).
Conclusion: The study concludes that SF ratio is a useful surrogate marker for PF ratio and can be used to detect ARDS in early stages which helps in early referrals and improve the outcome.
