A Research Paper on Salting Hashed Passwords for Securing Web Applications

| Abstract | In today's digital age, most web applications use passwords for the login process. All of these Internet-based web applications use encryption techniques to protect passwords. Encrypted passwords can be easily cracked by hackers. Hashing algorithms are used to make web application passwords more secure. However, hashing alone is not enough to improve password security in web applications. Various methods are used to make hashing algorithms stronger, salting is one of them. Salting adds a layer of randomness at the beginning of the hashing process. The salt is a cryptographically secure random string that is added to the password before it is hashed, and the salt must be stored with the hash so that an attacker without access to both sources can reveal the original plaintext. It's hard to know. Salted hashing is a much more complicated and secure process, as each hash requires the use of a different random "salt" that acts as an extra layer of encryption. This means that all known salts (or collections) are required to perform a password hashing function. No system or algorithm is truly secure without loopholes. However, this technique is intended to increase the security of the algorithm. This leaves more time for attackers who want to break into your system. |
