Abstract The present study titled “An Analysis of Teacher Trainees’ Perceptions towards the Operational Efficiency of DIETs in Andhra Pradesh” aimed to examine how teacher trainees perceive the functioning and effectiveness of District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) across the state. A descriptive research design was employed to systematically assess the existing conditions and relationships among variables related to operational efficiency without manipulating any factors. The study focused on four key dimensions—Academic Environment, Faculty Interaction, Campus Infrastructure, and Institutional Support and Development—to obtain a comprehensive understanding of institutional performance as experienced by teacher trainees.
A total of 300 teacher trainees from 13 Government DIETs located across the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh were selected using a stratified random sampling technique, ensuring equitable representation of gender and locality. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire consisting of 40 items rated on a five-point Likert scale. The instrument demonstrated satisfactory reliability with a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.79. The findings revealed significant differences in trainees’ perceptions of the operational efficiency of DIETs with respect to gender and locality, with female and urban trainees reporting more favorable perceptions. The study underscores the need to strengthen the academic environment, infrastructure, and faculty support across all DIETs to ensure equitable quality in teacher education throughout Andhra Pradesh.
