| Abstract | Cataract is the leading cause of blindness, and cataract surgery is the most commonly performed procedure to treat it. Anxiety before surgery is a common response to stress, and if not considered, it might alter patient’s physiological functioning during surgery, potentially leading to complications such as delayed healing, glaucoma and haemorrhage during surgery. Nurses can play an important role in alleviating patient’s anxiety by providing constant reassurance during surgery via handholding. |
