Ayurvedic Management Of Vitamin B12 Deficiency-A Case Study

Abstract Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin which supports the function of nerve cells and required for maturation of red blood cells and DNA Synthesis. The symptoms of its deficiency range from glossitis to severe demyelination of nervous tissue. Ayurveda considers deficiency diseases are may be due to Agnimandya which leads to Rasa Rakta Dhatukshaya, results in VataPrakopa or Vitamin B12 deficiency occurs due to lack of proper nutrients in food also leading to depletion of Rasa and Rakta Dhatus and further results in Vataprakopa. In present case study instead of using Vitamin B12 supplements, patient was given Amyron syrup with Amlycure DS capsules. She presented with symptoms like hair loss, irritability, flatulence, fatigue, tingling sensation in upper and lower limbs and pain in calf muscles. After treatment blood tests revealed increased serum Vitamin B12 level from 94.80pg/ml to 688pg/ml and significant relief was noted in all above mentioned symptoms.
