Diversity of ants in Kundapura, Udupi, Karnataka, India

Abstract The present study was carried out in selected sites of Kundapura to study the diversity of ants by search method and hand collection method from January 2024 to December 2024. The results revealed the presence of 20 species of ants belonging to 15 genera and 5 subfamilies. Among these, subfamily Formicinae is represented by 8 species and constitutes 40%, subfamily Myrmicinae is represented by 7 species and constitutes 35%. The subfamily Pseudomyrmicinae includes 2 species, while the subfamily Ponerinae also comprises 2 species, together accounting for 10%. The subfamily Dolichoderinae is represented by a single species, accounting for 5%. This survey provides valuable information of ant diversity in Kundapura.
