Author(s) Mir Mubashir Maqbool

Abstract Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), a region renowned for its natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and religious significance, has witnessed substantial growth in tourism in recent years. This study investigates current trends, as well as the economic, environmental, and social impacts of tourism in J&K, identifies the challenges it faces, and proposes recommendations for sustainable and equitable development. Utilizing secondary sources, government data, and existing literature, we find that tourism significantly contributes to the region’s GDP and employment but also imposes pressure on ecosystems, infrastructure, and cultural heritage. Sustainable policy interventions, community engagement, and infrastructure development are essential to fully harness the potential of tourism.
Keywords Tourism, Terrorism, challenges, sustainable development.
