Understanding the Impact of Climate Change on Groundwater Recharge: A Conceptual Framework.

| Abstract | Hypospheric alterations due to climate change have become one of the top determining factors of the world's hydrological cycle, particularly in the recharge of groundwater, which is crucial for sustaining ecosystems, agriculture, and direct human consumption of freshwater. The objective of this paper is to create a conceptual model and determine the described configuration of climatic components and climatic variables, which, in this case, means the change in climatic temperature, the amount of rain fall, the evaporation and the subsequent rise in temperature, and the change of land for vegetation, and the overall outcome of this model on the ground water recharge cycle. The model considers the multidisciplinary interrelations among climate, recharge, and hydrogeology, as well as environmental factors, to account for the natural and anthropogenically driven variability associated with groundwater. The focus of the paper is to analyse the impacts of hydrologic climate extremes, which range from droughts to floods, and the effects of surface and groundwater interrelations on the preservation of groundwater on a regional scale. It aims to fortify the development of adaptive actions in water management, particularly in areas affected by climate change impacts in South Asia, with a relevant focus. The author has identified several research gaps and emphasises the need for integrated, SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) outcome-driven policies based on climate resilience, incorporating advanced groundwater monitoring, cross-disciplinary modelling, and policy development. |
