Abstract The proliferation of digital platforms has transformed university life, yet a significant gap persists in facilitating efficient, safe, and localized peer-to-peer commerce among students. A critical challenge, termed the "Hyperlocal Trust Deficit," is identified, wherein existing platforms fail due to an inability to simultaneously solve the economic problem of achieving market thickness and the social problem of establishing trust within transient student populations. This paper introduces Connect Sphere, a cost-free student marketplace web application designed around a unique dual-solution architecture to overcome this deficit. The platform's methodology combines a strategic zero-commission model to ensure market thickness with a mandatory university email (.edu) verification system to create a high-trust, closed ecosystem. The system was developed using a phased agile methodology, integrating market design theory with the principles of Extreme Programming (XP). The design and implementation of Connect Sphere are presented, and it is argued that its unique approach provides a robust and theoretically-grounded model for a sustainable, student-centric marketplace that effectively mitigates the common failure points of niche online platforms.
