A Study the Advantages and Disadvantages of Using the ChatGPT AI Interface in Academic Research

| Abstract | The use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques like ChatGPT has swiftly revolutionised academic research, presenting both benefits and problems. This research investigates the benefits and drawbacks of using ChatGPT in academic contexts via a mixed-methods approach, including data from 150 survey respondents and 25 semi-structured interviews. The results show that there are many advantages, such as better writing fluency, more efficient work, help with language for non-native speakers, clearer concepts, and better brainstorming. At the same time, there were some major problems, such as hallucinations (false information), ethical issues with plagiarism and authorship, a lack of critical examination, and the danger of relying too much on it. The findings underscore that while ChatGPT serves as a beneficial supplemental resource, it cannot replace academic rigour and autonomous critical analysis. This study adds to the expanding conversation around AI in education by giving real-world examples and useful tips for how to utilize ChatGPT ethically and effectively in academic research. |
