Abstract HIV/AIDS in China has spread via different routes over the past 37 years, resulting in one of the most complex patterns of HIV subtypes in the world, even with the fact that the overall number of cases remains relatively low. The first major outbreak occurred among drug users, and the second resulted from unsafe and illegal blood collection practices. To fix this, China introduced the Anti-Drug Law, the Blood Donation Act, and nationwide nucleic acid testing. These measures helped prevent within 98,000 and 2,00,000 new infections and almost completely stopped HIV transmission through blood products.

Since 2003, China has been providing free antiretroviral therapy (ART) to people living with HIV. More than 80% of identified patients have been treated, and about 91 percent have successfully suppressed the virus in their bodies. To finally reduce and reduce the HIV/AIDS burden, China needs to focus on preventing sexual transmission, improving early diagnosis to identify more cases quickly, and ensuring that ART remains effective and safe for long-term use.
