Feminism and the Dual Nature of Sāṁkhya Philosophy

Abstract This paper critically analyzes the “dual nature” of Sāṁkhya philosophy —its structural metaphysical dualism and its interpretive gender dualism—through the prisms of feminist philosophy. Referring to primary texts such as the Sāṃkhyakārikā and classical commentaries, and drawing on the insights of contemporary feminist theory, it explores whether Sāṁkhya's ontology necessarily legitimates gender hierarchies or whether Sāṁkhya can be reinterpreted as a system that advocates reciprocity and complementarity.
