| Abstract | Sri Aurobindo’s philosophy of integral education represents a holistic, transformative approach to learning that comprises physical, emotional, psychic and spiritual growth. Based on Indian philosophical traditions yet universally applicable, integral education underscores self-discovery, inner development and the integration of various aspects of human potential. This paper critically examines Sri Aurobindo’s contribution to integral education by reviewing research on its philosophical foundations, pedagogical principles, empirical implementations and contemporary relevance. Evidence from case studies such as Auroville and Mirambika demonstrates the practical impact of his ideas, while analyses from scholars reveal its alignment with modern educational reforms like value-based education, holistic development and the skills agenda of the 21st century. The paper also explores challenges to the adoption of integral education such as teacher preparedness, institutional inertia and assessment constraints. It concludes that Aurobindo’s vision remains a living and transformative educational paradigm, providing valuable perspectives for building a more humane, value-oriented and future-ready educational system. |
