| Abstract | This study systematically evaluates the role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India as dynamic contributors to employment generation, job profile diversification, and inclusive economic growth across the manufacturing, services, and agriculture-linked sectors. Employing a mixed-methods approach, it analyses quantitative data from 2,400 MSMEs, showing sector-specific employment patterns—manufacturing leads in job volume, agriculture-linked MSMEs excel in employment intensity, and services facilitate dynamic career mobility. Regression models identify enterprise size, technology adoption, infrastructure access, and skill training as key determinants of employment levels, while in-depth interviews reveal persistent barriers including infrastructural deficits, limited credit, skills gaps, and complex regulatory processes, especially in rural areas. Stakeholder perceptions suggest that while government schemes such as Mudra and SFURTI partially support MSME expansion and hiring, gaps in scheme accessibility, awareness, and rural inclusion constrain impact. The research concludes that strengthening infrastructure, simplifying compliance, expanding financial and training support, and improving scheme communication can unlock MSMEs’ potential as engines of sustainable, equitable employment and sectoral development in India. |
