Climate Action in India: Policies, Programs and Achievements Toward SDG-13

Author(s) Mr. MANJUNATHA SP, Prof. Dr. Manoj Dolli
Country India
Abstract Recognizing the urgency of addressing climate change, India has adopted multiple policies and programs to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, build resilience, and transition to a low-carbon economy. This paper analyses the evolution of India’s climate action policies and performance since 2008, especially after the Paris Agreement, using a mixed-methods approach combining policy review and secondary data analysis. It evaluates progress towards SDG-13 and explores whether policymakers have incorporated lessons from past efforts. Despite notable advances in renewable energy, disaster risk reduction and adaptation planning, major challenges remain in implementation, financing, and behavioral change at the local level. The paper concludes with recommendations and global best practices to strengthen climate action in India.
