| Abstract | This study examines Medodushti, an Ayurvedic concept, as a broad theoretical model for analyzing metabolic dysfunction outside traditional obesity frameworks. Through meticulous analysis of classical Ayurvedic texts and contemporary medical literature, it reveals how Medo Dhatu pathology extends far beyond adipose tissue dysfunction to encompass systemic metabolic disturbances. The research identifies four cardinal pathways of Medodushti pathogenesis: Aharaja Nidana (dietary indiscretions), Viharaja Nidana (lifestyle factors), Manasika Nidana (psychological influences), and Anya Nidana (hereditary components), each contributing to Agni impairment and Ama formation. The study demonstrates striking parallels between Ayurvedic descriptions of Srotorodha (channel obstruction) and modern concepts of metabolic inflammation, while highlighting unique insights from the Baddha/Abaddha Medas classification system. It also contrasts Ayurveda's holistic understanding of metabolic disease as manifestations of Medo Dhatu imbalance. Particularly noteworthy are the correlations between Medodushti's clinical features and metabolic syndrome markers, suggesting ancient recognition of visceral adiposity pathophysiology. The study findings propose that Medodushti represents a unified theory of metabolic dysregulation that predates modern endocrinology by millennia, offering novel therapeutic perspectives through its emphasis on Deepana-Pachana and Srotoshodhana. This work bridges ancient wisdom with contemporary science, suggesting that ayurvedic principles of Medo Dhatu homeostasis could inform innovative approaches to managing diabetes, dyslipidemia, and related disorders in the 21st century. |
