Creative Writing as a Tool for Self-Expression in Kids

Author(s) SUBHANKAR MANDAL
Country India
Abstract Creative writing is increasingly recognized as an effective medium for enhancing children’s self-expression, emotional awareness, and cognitive development. This paper explores the role of creative writing activities—such as storytelling, journaling, and poetry—in fostering self-expression and emotional intelligence in children. Drawing upon recent empirical studies and educational theories, the paper identifies mechanisms including reflection, imagination, and narrative construction that enhance children’s ability to articulate thoughts and feelings. Evidence suggests that regular engagement in creative writing promotes emotional resilience, improves communication skills, and nurtures creativity. Recommendations are provided for educators and parents to integrate creative writing into both formal and informal learning contexts
