Effects of Overparenting on Child’s Freedom

| Abstract | This paper examines the effects of overparenting on children’s autonomy, decision-making abilities, and overall freedom. Overparenting—also known as “helicopter parenting”—involves excessive involvement and control over a child’s life, often limiting opportunities for independent exploration. Drawing on developmental psychology research and empirical studies, the paper highlights how overparenting can restrict children’s problem-solving skills, self-efficacy, and resilience. The study also explores strategies for parents and educators to balance guidance with freedom, supporting healthy psychological and social development |
