Psychological Effects of Competition in Primary Schools

Author(s) ANSARUL HOQUE
Country India
Abstract Competition is often introduced in primary schools with the intention of motivating students to perform better. However, while healthy competition can encourage hard work and resilience, excessive or poorly managed competition may lead to stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem among young learners. This research paper explores the psychological effects of competition on primary school students, highlighting both the positive and negative outcomes. It also examines how teachers and parents can create a balanced environment that fosters motivation without harming a child’s mental and emotional well-being.
