Psychological First Aid: A Qualitative Review on Its Relevance, Practices, and Implications for Mental Health Preparedness

| Abstract | Psychological First Aid is basically the same as giving immediate mental support to help people cope with stress and bounce back after they face crisis or trauma. This study is based on systematic review where research articles, organizational guidelines and policy documents is thoroughly used to understand that how Psychological First Aid has emerged with time, how perfectly it works and its usefulness in today’s world in dealing with mental health problems. The researcher reviewed the articles published between the years 2006 to 2025 from the search engines like Google scholar, PubMed, Scopus research database. The focal point of Psychological First Aid is to keep safe, Calm and social Connectedness to reduce stress and help people to cope better. The review also showed that practical training which respects local culture and proper institutional systems are only critical for making things work effectively. Psychological First Aid shows good immediate results, but at the same time studies showed lack of proper long-term follow-up and standardization across different cultures. As per the findings, adding Psychological First Aid into education, healthcare, and community systems can make our mental health preparedness stronger regarding crisis response capacity. The paper concludes that psychological First Aid must be induced in institutional curriculum, policies, training tools should be improved and research based changes should be made regarding different cultural and social settings. |
