Abstract Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, emphasizes a holistic approach to health encompassing the physical, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of human existence. Among its three principal modes of treatment Daivavyapasraya Chikitsa (divine therapy), Yuktivyapasraya Chikitsa (rational therapy), and Sattvavajaya Chikitsa (psychological therapy) the divine therapy holds a unique place for its focus on spiritual and karmic aspects of disease. The present study is an analytical compilation of the scattered references of Daivavyapasraya Chikitsa found in the Charaka Saṃhita, with particular attention to its practical application and philosophical significance. The references were collected, organized, and interpreted to understand their relevance in modern healthcare.

The study reveals that Daivavyapasraya Chikitsa includes practices such as mantra (sacred sound therapy), homa (fire rituals), upavasa (fasting), niyama (observances), prayascitta (atonement), and swastyayana (recitation of auspicious hymns), all of which aim to purify the body, mind, and spirit. These practices are especially indicated in karmaja vyadhis (diseases caused by past actions), psychosomatic disorders, and lifestyle-related illnesses. Among them, Upavasa stands out as a bridge between physical detoxification and spiritual purification. Modern research supports many of its benefits, including improved metabolic health, emotional stability, and stress reduction.
Thus, Daivavyapasraya Chikitsa represents a timeless therapeutic system that not only alleviates disease but also cultivates harmony between the individual and the cosmos. Integrating such spiritual therapies with rational and psychological treatments can help restore holistic health and emotional balance in today’s stress-driven world.
