| Abstract | Music education can play a transformative role in youth empowerment. In India, the convergence of rich musical traditions, a large youth population and recent policy change creates an opening for music to serve as a tool for capability building, social inclusion and livelihood formation This paper studies how music education can function as a pathway to youth empowerment in India. The study develops a conceptual model that links musical learning processes to cognitive, emotional, social and economic outcomes. It examines the Indian policy landscape, schooling systems, community practices and market structures that shape access to music learning. The paper uses theory from the capability approach, positive youth development, and socio-emotional learning. The conclusion is that music education is not a luxury. It is a core tool for youth empowerment in India. It can expand capabilities, build identity and support community well-being. It can also link education with India’s creative economy. With steady policy support and local innovation, music education can help India reach its demographic and cultural goals. |
