Participation of Karbi women in gathering non-timber forest products and its impact on livelihood: A study of West Karbi Anglong district

| Abstract | The study analyses the impact of women in collecting the NTFPs and contributing on the livelihood of the every households of the study area. The study found the constraint and challenges face by the respondents while collecting the forest products and accessing to the market. Attainment of education and its accessibility are the main reason behind the poor socio-economic status of the village. Varieties of NTFPs are found from different seasons of the year. NTFPs include everything from medicinal plants and wild edible fruits, leafy, stems, roots, flowers and honey, bamboos which serve as a subsistence and cash income for them and for a whole society. The present study concluded that participation of women in the collecting processes is deeply interwoven with their cultural, social and economic identity. |
