The Miracle Tree: A Comprehensive Review of the Nutritional and Therapeutic Potential of Moringa oleifera
| Author(s) | Ms. Neeru Garg |

| Country | India |
| Abstract | Moringa (primarily Moringa oleifera) has been dubbed a “super-plant” because of its exceptional nutritional density, diverse pharmacological activities, and adaptability to marginal environments. Native to the Indian subcontinent, moringa has been adopted worldwide for food security, nutritional supplementation, traditional medicine, and commercial products. This article synthesizes current knowledge on moringa’s botany, nutritional and phytochemical composition, physiological and pharmacological properties, cultivation practices, socio-economic roles, safety considerations, and key gaps for future research. While preclinical and observational evidence supports many beneficial effects (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, and hepatoprotective activities), high-quality randomized clinical trials remain limited. Integrating agronomy, phytochemistry, toxicology, and rigorous clinical investigation will be crucial to translating moringa’s promise into safe, evidence-based applications for nutrition and health. |
