Abstract Abstract
This study investigates the factors influencing gendered subject choices within Visual Arts Education and their subsequent impact on the career goals of students in selected Senior High Schools in the Western Region of Ghana. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research explores how socio-cultural norms, perceived skill sets, teacher influence, peer dynamics, and exposure to specific art forms shape subject selection (e.g., painting, sculpture, textiles, graphic design) among male and female students. Furthermore, it examines how these choices correlate with their aspirations for future careers in the creative industries. Findings reveal significant gendered patterns in subject preference, often aligning with traditional notions of masculinity and femininity. These choices, in turn, influence students' perceived career pathways, highlighting the need for interventions that promote equitable access and challenge gender stereotypes within visual arts education to foster diverse and inclusive career aspirations.
