| Abstract | The recruitment of faculty for Government Arts and Science Colleges in Tamil Nadu, managed by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), is a critical process often fraught with systemic challenges. A synthesis of recent analyses (2020-2024) reveals several persistent obstacles that hinder a smooth and equitable hiring process for applicants. A primary concern is the issue of procedural inefficiency, characterized by significant delays and ad-hoc scheduling of notifications and examinations. This unpredictability creates immense uncertainty for candidates attempting to plan their careers. Compounding this are ambiguities in eligibility criteria, particularly regarding subject-specific qualifications and language proficiency requirements, which can lead to arbitrary disqualifications. The digital infrastructure underpinning the application process itself presents a significant barrier. Technical glitches, a non-intuitive interface, and the prerequisite for reliable internet access disproportionately affect candidates from remote or socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Furthermore, the cumulative financial and time investments required for repeated application attempts, travel, and study materials place a heavy burden on aspirants. Underpinning these operational issues are broader concerns about transparency and perceived fairness in the selection process. A lack of clear communication and consistent grievance redressal mechanisms can erode trust in the system's integrity. Addressing these multifaceted challenges—ranging from procedural delays and digital divides to issues of equity and transparency—is essential for the TRB to attract and select the most qualified faculty. Streamlining this process is not merely an administrative goal but a fundamental prerequisite for enhancing the quality of higher education in Tamil Nadu. Future empirical research is needed to quantify the prevalence and impact of these barriers. |
