| Abstract | The rapid rise of online food delivery (OFD) platforms has transformed India’s restaurant industry, reshaping sales dynamics, business models, and consumer behavior. This study investigates the impact of OFD platforms on sales transformation and business performance of restaurants in Bangalore City, one of India’s most digitally advanced food service markets. Drawing on secondary data from academic studies, industry reports, government publications, and company disclosures (2018–2024), the research adopts a descriptive-analytical design. Findings reveal that OFD platforms contribute significantly to sales growth, with Bangalore accounting for nearly 15–18% of India’s online delivery volumes. While platforms enhance revenue, market expansion, and customer retention, profitability is constrained by high commission charges (20–30%) and discount-driven competition. Consumer-driven factors such as ratings, promotions, and convenience strongly influence sales performance, highlighting the centrality of digital reputation management. The study concludes that OFD platforms are both enablers and disruptors—providing visibility and resilience while increasing operational dependency. Implications are discussed for restaurateurs, aggregators, and policymakers, emphasizing the need for balanced strategies that ensure growth without compromising profitability. |
