Abstract Aged individuals are frequently at risk of falling which may result in severe injury. These falls may be serious and may cause significant morbidity and mortality, can threaten the independence of older people and may be responsible for an individual’s loss of independence and socioeconomic consequences and add extra burden to the health costs directly and indirectly. The study aimed at assessing the prevalence of fall and its associated factors among elderly. The objectives of the study were to estimate the prevalence of fall among elderly and to identify the factors associated with fall among elderly residing in the field areas under Medical College Health Unit, Pangappara. The research approach adopted for the study was quantitative and the research design was Cross-sectional. The setting of the study was field areas under Medical College Health Unit, Pangappara. The data was collected from 360 participants who met the eligibility criteria. Participants were selected by cluster sampling method. The data was collected by an interview schedule and analysis was carried out using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Study results shows that the prevalence of fall among elderly is 28.9% and marital status, presence of systemic illness, musculoskeletal and neurosensory problems are the factors associated with fall among elderly on multivariable logistic regression. This study found that the prevalence of falls is high among older adults. The association identified with socio-demographic and clinical variables is confirmed by the literature and can contribute to the development of fall prevention programmes for elderly population.
