Abstract Loneliness is a prevalent phenomenon in today’s world, adversely influencing individuals’ mental and physical health (Mushtaq & et.al, 2014). It causes poor cognition (Boss & .et.al, 2015). Simultaneously, the modern technology of Artificial Intelligence is integrating into our daily lives, including healthcare, education, and individuals preferring the use of this technology as a substitute for mental health services. This inclusion has raised several questions about the ethical considerations, limitations and concerns of over-reliance on this technology (Thippanna, Jyothi, & Krishnaiah, 2023). Thus, this study aims to understand the relationship between perceived loneliness and general attitude towards AI usage in young adults. For this, the UCLA Loneliness Scale and Scale of Attitude Towards AI Usage were used. The data from 116 participants was collected through the distribution of online Google Forms, and informed consent was taken. The results of this study indicated that there is a statistically significant negative correlation between perceived loneliness and attitude towards AI usage (Pearson’s r = -0.220, p < 0.05). these results implied that as loneliness increases, the openness towards AI decreases and vice versa. Based on these results, this research suggests the need for digital literacy for the users, wherein they understand the benefits and limitations of AI and promote more mindful use of AI.
