Author(s) Ms Priya Dharshini G

Abstract This study aims to analyse the impact of dowry practices on the female sex ratio in India. The study makes use of both primary and secondary data. Primary data was collected through Google Forms from 150 respondents to examine underlying social attitudes towards perceptions of son preference and dowry expectations. Secondary data was obtained from official government publications and large-scale surveys such as the Census of India, NFHS-5, NCRB crime records, reports from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, National Sample Survey (NSSO), India Human Development Survey (IHDS), and the Economic Survey of India. These sources provided information on female sex ratio, socio-demographic patterns, dowry-related crimes, and the economic impact of dowry practices.
