Women at Work: Navigating Careers for Women in Urban Nagaland

Author(s) Ms. Mhonyani Patton, Dr. Suraj Beri
Country India
Abstract Nagaland, characterized by a patriarchal society and deeply entrenched in traditional customs, has historically seen limited involvement of women in decision-making roles and the workforce. This paper investigates the gender distribution of work in Nagaland and evaluates women's participation in the economy within the framework of socio-cultural limitations. Utilizing secondary data, the study examines how social structures and restricted access to economic opportunities have resulted in women's lack of economic empowerment and engagement in formal employment sectors. By synthesizing insights from previous research, this study highlights key emerging issues and challenges concerning women's participation in the labor market, such as gender inequalities, occupational segregation, and socio-cultural obstacles.
