First Record of Heniochus intermedius from the Libyan Waters, Benghazi, Eastern Libya

Abstract	This study reports the first confirmed record of Heniochus intermedius along the Libyan coast, specifi-cally in Jiliana Port, Benghazi, eastern Libya. A single individual was observed during a spearfishing competition organized under the supervision of the Benghazi Scout Commission and Kuna Tuna Fish Company on 25 October, 2025 at a depth of approximately 3 m and a water temperature of 20°C. Iden-tification was based on external morphological characteristics and photographic evidence provided by the participants. The presence of H. intermedius in Libyan waters represents a notable westward expan-sion of its known range in the Mediterranean Sea and provides additional evidence of ongoing Les-sepsian migration from the Red Sea.
