Navigating the Paradox: A Pragmatist Study on the Psychological Well-being and Sentiment of the Indian Workforce during the Return-to-Office Transition

Author(s) Ms. Rhea Jane Bangera
Country India
Abstract This study highlights the complex and conflicting experiences faced by employees as they transition from remote work to office setting after the global pandemic. This transition has created a complex psychological landscape for employees worldwide. The study explores how Indian workers manage the tension between the comfort and flexibility of working from home and the collaboration of office life. Grounded in a pragmatic research philosophy, this research focuses on real world experiences. It examines employee’s mental health, emotions and attitudes during this shift especially among the Indian workforce. The central problem is the tension between organizational mandates and the nuanced psychological experience of employees, especially the paradox in which Indian professionals express positive feelings about returning to the office while simultaneously reporting significant anxieties and difficulties. The study aims to understand how individuals balance personal wellbeing with organizational expectations in a changing work environment. The methodology is a mixed-methods approach, using quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to provide a holistic and actionable understanding. The study seeks to contribute to academic knowledge by bridging the gap between broad sentiments and underlying motivations, and to offer evidence-based recommendations for human resource leaders.
