| Abstract | The incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has significantly reshaped academic learning, presenting both advantages and challenges for students’ growth. This research examines how AI technologies influence students’ learning experiences and academic performance, emphasizing their perceptions and the issues surrounding AI integration. The study was conducted at the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, targeting second-year students directly engaged with AI-supported learning environments. Using purposive sampling, 85 participants were selected to ensure relevance and representativeness. Data were gathered through a structured questionnaire featuring 11 items—seven closed-ended questions evaluating perceptions, usage patterns, and the effectiveness of AI tools, and four open-ended questions exploring experiences, expectations, and concerns. Quantitative data were analysed through frequency and percentage computations, while qualitative data underwent thematic analysis using both vertical (individual-level) and horizontal (cross-case) approaches to capture comprehensive themes. The results indicate that AI contributes positively by enabling personalized learning, improving academic performance, and fostering greater student engagement. Nonetheless, issues such as dependency on AI, reduced critical thinking, data privacy concerns, and potential academic misconduct also emerged. The study highlights the importance of establishing a well-defined framework for AI use in education, supported by ethical standards, to optimize its benefits while addressing associated risks. In conclusion, although AI holds substantial promise for enhancing learning outcomes and efficiency, effective implementation demands careful consideration of ethical, cognitive, and reliability factors to ensure balanced and responsible educational experiences. |
