Author(s) Mr. Governor Fianyo
Country Ghana
Abstract This study examined the perceptions of junior high school teachers regarding the implementation of a standards-based curriculum in the Central Tongu District of Ghana.
The study employed a descriptive survey design. The target population comprised 330 public junior high school teachers in the Central Tongu District. The researcher selected a sample of 150 teachers through simple random sampling and gathered data using a questionnaire.
Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study found that teachers hold a positive attitude toward the standards-based curriculum, viewing it as beneficial and capable of helping learners think independently and grow into productive adults.
The implementation of the standards-based curriculum faces several challenges that must be addressed. Among the recommendations is that teachers should cultivate and maintain a positive perception of the curriculum. Furthermore, information about the standards-based curriculum should be easily accessible so teachers can fully understand and appreciate it.
