The Role of Digital Governance in Enhancing Government Functions and Services - A Study on Telangana E-Governance System

Author(s) Dr. Gangadhar Udutha
Country India
Abstract Digital Governance, also called E-Governance, is one of the initiatives of our Hon’ble Prime Minister, “Atma Nibbara Bharath” by 2047. He says that if people’s access to governance is easier and more transparent, it empowers the public to become active partners in the nation's progress. E-governance, also known as electronic governance or digital governance, is the application of technology to deliver government functions and services, making them readily available to the country's citizens. This paper examines the transformative impact of digital governance on public administration. It explores how integrating digital technologies (ICT) into government functions and services improves efficiency, transparency, and the accessibility of services to citizens. The research underscores the importance of policy reforms, capacity building, and collaborative efforts among government agencies, the private sector, and civil society for the successful implementation of digital governance strategies. By analysing case studies and empirical data on the topic, the paper demonstrates how digital technology and ICT tools facilitate faster, more informed decision-making and reduce bureaucratic delays in delivering citizen services. It also addresses the challenges and hurdles associated with the digital governance mechanism. Finally, the paper concludes that digital governance plays a significant role in improving the overall quality of public services. This study provides valuable insights for policymakers, administrators, and research scholars interested in leveraging digital technology to create more responsive and accountable government systems.
