Abstract Stroke is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with India accounting for a significant proportion of stroke related deaths. Despite its severity, stroke is often preventable, and early detection and treatment can significantly improve outcomes. In India, approximately one person dies from a stroke every four minutes. The country experiences roughly 185,000 strokes per year, or nearly one stroke every 40 seconds. The stroke death rate in India increased from 44 per 100,000 people in 1990 to 55 in 2021. The stroke burden in India is high, with a prevalence rate of 44.54 to 150/100,000 people. The risk of stroke is higher for adult aged people. Adults in urban areas are at high risk of stroke due to sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets, and other modifiable risk factors. However, there is a significant knowledge gap regarding stroke risk factors and warning signs among this population.
