| Abstract | This paper is illustrated by the most useful methods of language teaching methodology about the grammar translation method and direct method of language teachers in different countries. The purpose of this paper is to present the strengths and weaknesses of two teaching methods that are still in use in practice, and to present a combination of methodologies that have been tested and proven to be effective at Computer and Technological Universities in Myanmar. Most of the teachers in different countries use them to accomplish their language teaching. The grammar translation method is used for the improvement of students’ reading ability and for encouraging them to try English learning. This method is very effective for the language learners to be familiar with foreign languages for acquiring reading, writing, speaking, and listening better. On the other hand, the direct method is also used for the target language communicatively. This method is not allowed in translation to be fluent in English. As a language teacher, both methods are used to be effective teaching and learning throughout my teaching life. Both methods are still used for language better in language teaching and learning. |
