The Scientific Wood Sculpture Preservation in Bangladesh

Author(s) Sunny Kumer Das
Country Bangladesh
Abstract Wooden sculptures play a crucial yet fragile role in Bangladesh's cultural heritage, featuring prominently in temple art, traditional crafts, religious figures, and local architecture. The tropical climate, biological deterioration, and insufficient conservation resources put these artifacts in significant jeopardy. This study consolidates current understanding of wood deterioration issues in Bangladesh, suggests a practical approach to assessment and conservation suited to local circumstances, and presents policy recommendations and strategies for capacity building aimed at enhancing long-term preservation efforts.
